Geopressure Analysis using Geologic Modeling (3 or 5 day course)
(Geopressure analysis using Drillworks® Pressage)
Who should take this course?
Geoscientists and engineers who need advanced methods to work in difficult areas or those who want to apply geologic modeling and hydrodynamic analysis in their geopressure analysis.
Course Overview
If you work in areas (including carbonate regions) where traditional petrophysical pore pressure analysis fails or if you want to make the best possible geopressure analysis this course is for you. Students will learn
- The methodology behind a geopressure analysis at the basin scale
- The benefits this method has over more traditional approaches
- Use of Drillworks Presage to build a hydrodynamic geologic geopressure model that incorporates seismic, petrophysical, and geologic-based analysis.
- How to update the model in real-time to accurately predict geopressures 1,000 ft ahead of the bit.
Prerequisites
Students are required to have either attended the Petrophysical Geopressure Analysis course or be competent users of Drillworks Predict.
DAY 1
- Introduction to geopressure prediction at the basin scale.
- Using 1D analysis from Drillworks Predict to build a 3D geopressure model in Drillworks Presage.
Practical work
- Guided tour of the Presage Tutorial
- Setting up the Drillworks Presage geopressure model
DAY 2
Practical work
- Building a Drillworks Presage geopressure model
- Forward modeling, inversion, and calibration
- Adding faults
- Visualizing the subsurface environment.
- Adding a new well and making a prediction.
- Comparing the results.
DAY 3
Practical work
- Introduction to real-time analysis with Drillworks Presage to look ahead of the bit.
- Updating the pressure prediction in real-time.
- Summary and Discussion.
DAY 4 and 5 (Optional)
Practical work
With mentoring and assistance from the instructor students will build a Drillworks Presage model using their own data.
