Remote Monitoring Services

A cost-effective approach to providing expert analysis

New data acquired while drilling can quickly require changes to even the most robust pre-drill pore pressure and wellbore stability plan. But applying this data and producing timely analysis is logistically and economically difficult for many wells.

Our Remote Monitoring Services provide a scalable solution that brings affordable expert analysis to every drilling operation for enhanced safety and economics.

Remote monitoring diagram

Remote monitoring is a very cost-effective approach to addressing pore pressure and wellbore stability issues for many wells. Its advantages include:

  • Reduced logistical requirements by elimination of onsite analyst personnel
  • Short set-up time
  • The ability to monitor multiple wells, anywhere in the world
  • Internet-based for reliable communications at any office desktop

Flexible Monitoring

In your office and ours, wellsite data from multiple sources is easily acquired for real-time or periodic analysis using the Internet and WITSML™ transmission protocol.

Applying this flexible communications capability, we tailor an appropriate monitoring response according to the demands of the drilling application. When risk factors are higher, we increase monitoring; when drilling conditions are less demanding, monitoring is reduced. This is done using two communications formats:

  • Asynchronous communications – for delivery of data once or twice a day
  • Synchronous communications – for continuous coverage at specific times, or full-time dedicated coverage

WITSML-based Communications

Real-time data acquisition is facilitated with the WITSML™ transmission protocol. Offered by most major service companies, the standard is rapidly developing as a means
for fast, seamless integration of data from many sources. It also facilitates selection of component services from different service companies.

We capture WITSML transmitted data in real time and communicate it over the Internet to remotely run our pore pressure and wellbore stability models. Updated using LWD and surface logging data, these models provide pressure prediction within 0.5 ppg up as far as a thousand feet ahead of the bit.

Because accurate pore pressure modeling uses many such sources, Knowledge Systems is an industry leader in applying WITSML™ technology.

A Powerful Process

The Knowledge Systems approach to basin modeling integrates geology, petrophysics, geophysics and engineering for an inclusive analysis that considers all available information.

We develop a 3D geologic model of pore, fracture and overburden pressure using all the available information. The model is refined by a multidisciplinary team of highly-experienced pore pressure analysts and geoscientists to ensure the results are exceptional, even when time is short and data is limited.

Geopressure and Geomechanical Expertise

We’ve been the leading provider of advanced geopressure and geomechanical solutions in the industry for almost 20 years. By focusing exclusively on these services, we provide
a uniquely independent source for understanding the wellbore environment.

Majors and independents worldwide rely on Knowledge Systems’ software development, engineering, consulting and training programs to reduce risk and cost, and to improve drilling performance.
