Joint Industry Project - Subsalt

Investigating pore pressure analysis in subsalt and integrating improved seismic imaging with basin modeling

The goals of the project:

  • Developing state-of-the-art subsalt planning and drilling
  • Examining seismic at the well locations for structural effects on pore pressure and for imaging at salt entry/exit
  • Building a set of geologic models
  • Examining the influence on seismic imaging
  • Developing and documenting best practices
Conclusions from the project:
  • Large database of subsalt wells analyzed for pressure
  • Salinity normalization procedure and analysis
  • Vp/Vs pressure analysis - correlation and procedure
  • Summary of state-of-the-art subsalt drilling experiences
  • Basin modeling improves subsalt predictions
  • Basin modeling can impact seismic imaging below salt
